Tom Crookes talks Legal Aid to the BBC

Today Tom Crookes of Ben Hoare Bell LLP appears on Jonathan Miles' BBC Newcastle show for a panel discussion on legal aid and pro bono work.

Tom discusses some topical issues regarding the upcoming legal aid cuts and justifies why legal aid is fundamentally important to society and sheds some light on why he has chosen to work in this particular area of law.

Joining him in the panel are Carol Boothby of Northumbria University who discusses the Student Law Office (SLO) where students provide advice free of charge as part of their final year of law studies and Hugh Welch of Muckle LLP who discusses his probono work and its importance for the charities that he assists.

Carol Boothby mentions that the SLO and Ben Hoare Bell LLP are involved with a joint pro bono project called Legal Advice Byker where members of the public are offered one hour appointments in a number of different areas of law under the supervision of solicitors working for Northumbria Law School and Ben Hoare Bell LLP.

The iPlayer link will only be active until the 23rd, Tom will explain his thoughts further in an article coming soon.
