On 11 February 2016 the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) reported that a Merseyside Police Officer who pleaded guilty to five counts of misconduct in public office had been dismissed from the Force. DC Michael McMillan made persistent contact with victims of crime for his own sexual purposes.

On 11 February 2016 following a misconduct hearing held by the Police he was dismissed from the Force with immediate effect.

McMillan will be sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on 11 March 2016 in relation to the criminal offences.

The IPCC managed the investigation against McMillan which was conducted by Merseyside Police’s Anti-Corruption Unit.
