At a hearing before Liverpool Crown Court on 11 April 2016 former Merseyside Police Officer Michael McMillan was jailed for 4 years after earlier pleading guilty to seven charges of misconduct in public office.  At a misconduct hearing held by Merseyside Police in February 2016 the Police Officer was dismissed from the Force with immediate effect.

The offences related to Michael McMillan making persistent contact with victims of crime for his own sexual purposes during his time as a Detective Constable with the Family Crime Investigation Unit of Merseyside Police.
