In August we blogged about the first person to be convicted for new ‘revenge porn’ offence. A man shared photographs of a 20 year old woman on Facebook. The pictures were of an intimate nature and caused the woman ‘extreme distress’.

The man was sentenced in September and was given a 6 month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months. He was also ordered to give 100 hours unpaid work, a restraining order and to pay costs. This follows shortly after the first woman was sentenced for the same offence.

The offence of ‘revenge porn’ came into force on 13th April 2015. Those found guilty of sharing photographs could face up to two years in prison and a fine.
