A Police employee who worked for Cleveland Police Force has been exposed as lying about his qualifications for the jobs he carried out. Stephen Beattie, most recently of Cleveland Police, was suspended from work in 2011 as Scenes of Crime Officer (SOCO) before later resigning. Reports into the work he undertook on more than 350 cases have determined that the officer lied about his qualifications, mishandled evidence and generally performed poorly in his role.
IPCC commissioner Cindy Butts stated:
“Stephen Beattie repeatedly lied about his qualifications and made judgments in cases that were both outside his remit and his level of expertise”.
Cleveland Police concluded that if he was still employed he would have a case to answer for gross misconduct.
