We are delighted to announce that Ben Hoare Bell has been shortlisted for four awards at this year’s Northern Law Awards
Eilish Ferry-Kennington – Trainee of the Year
Eilish has been shortlisted for ‘Trainee of the Year’. Eilish has worked at Ben Hoare Bell for nearly 5 years, starting as a part time administrative assistant in the Health and Social Care department. Eilish became a paralegal and then a trainee solicitor. She completed her training contract in March and is now a qualified Solicitor working in our Health and Social Care and Mental Health departments. Eilish became a Law Society accredited Mental Health Panel member during her training contract and continues to be a highly skilled Mental Health advocate.
Ronagh Craddock – Trainee of the Year
Ronagh has also been shortlisted for ‘Trainee of the Year’. Ronagh began her career at Ben Hoare Bell as a paralegal in the International Family department. She then successfully applied for a training contract through the Justice First Fellowship. Ronagh began this in January 2016 and has hit the ground running. She is currently working in the Health and Social Care and Public Law department and will move to the Housing department in July. Ronagh is also undertaking a project to further access to justice for young people in Newcastle.
Victoria Rowson – Rising Star – Young Lawyer of the Year
Victoria has been shortlisted for ‘Rising Star of the Year’. Victoria began her career doing family law and joined Ben Hoare Bell as a newly qualified Solicitor in March 2013. Victoria works on a range of complex and niche areas of family law including forced marriage, FGM, child abduction and honour based violence. Victoria also does child care work and is currently working towards Law Society Children Panel membership. She is particularly interested in working with mothers in prison and is developing a unique project to work with women who are coming to the end of their custodial sentence and want to oppose their children being adopted.
Family Law Team of the Year
The ever-expanding Family department at Ben Hoare Bell has been shortlisted for ‘Family Team of the Year’. Led by Newcastle Law Society President Mark Harrison the department is now the largest at Ben Hoare Bell and possibly the largest family department in the North East. The department offers services to both private and publicly funded clients in a range of areas such as divorce, children disputes (residence/contact/supervision proceedings), adoption, financial and property disputes, domestic abuse, child abduction and international family law including FGM, forced marriage and honour based violence. Seven Solicitors in the department are on the Law Society Children Panel and four are on various Resolution panels.
We were also pleased to hear that Ana Speed has been shortlisted for ‘Trainee of the Year’. Ana is doing her training with Northumbria University but is currently on secondment at Ben Hoare Bell. Ana will be at Ben Hoare Bell until the end of May and is working in our International Family Department.
