As part of our commitment to helping those who are most vulnerable in our community, we decided to collect donations for Washington Community Food Project for those who need it the most this Christmas.

The Importance of Food banks

Christmas is less than one week away- a time for joy and celebration. However, for many in our community the Christmas period can be a real struggle. More people than ever are expected to use food banks during this festive period.

Currently, an estimated 14 million people live below the poverty line in the UK. Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on low income.

A simple box of food makes a big difference, with food banks helping prevent crime, housing loss, family breakdown and mental health issues.

Why Washington Community Food Project?

Washington Community Food Project is the only food bank in Washington, Tyne and Wear, providing emergency food parcels for Washington and Springwell.

Charities such as Washington Community Food Project rely on the support of others to ensure nobody in our local community has to go hungry. The gift of financial support, time, business partnership and food can make a real difference.

For any donations, Washington Community Food Project is located at The Galleries Shopping Centre, Washington, Tyne and Wear. The unit is currently open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am until 2pm, donations can be made at the unit or at any local collection point. Further details can be found on their Facebook page.

Big or small, every gift received by the food bank helps transform the lives of those struggling.
