Theft of Passport Photographs

A Durham passport worker, James Close has pleaded guilty to stealing 30 photographs of girls from passport applications and making indecent images of children.

Newton Aycliffe Magistrates Court heard that James Close stole the photographs whilst employed by the Passport Office in Durham.  The thefts occurred between May and December 2018.

Following his guilty pleas James Close was bailed for a sentencing hearing at Durham Crown Court to be held on 22 November 2019.

Clearly when sending photographs to the Passport Office people do not expect the images to be stolen with the possibility they could then be circulated on the internet.

The females who had their images stolen will no doubt now be considering claims for compensation for any distress suffered.
