The Sunderland Echo produced an article yesterday regarding our work with the family of a man who died in the back of a police van.

The family will be relieved to hear that thanks to the inquest several police officers will face internal disciplinary proceedings.

Ben Hoare Bell has a specialist department for Police Misconduct headed by Richard Hardy who has over 14 years experience in this sector.

Jonny Hall also works within this department part-time and teaches Law at Northumbria University who the firm share close ties with. Jonny took this case and had this to say on the matter:

Ben Hoare Bell were proud to assist the McCourt family in the inquest into the death of Leonard McCourt. There were several worrying failures by Durham Police to care adequately for Mr McCourt that we were able to assist the family in exposing during the inquest process and we will continue to assist them in any misconduct or civil proceedings that may follow. The family showed great dignity and perseverance during the inquest. Ben Hoare Bell were ably assisted by the student law office at Northumbria University with whom the firm has close ties.
