A Police Officer resigned after an investigation found he had been working for a funeral company while off sick from work at South Wales Police.
In June 2020 a Police misconduct hearing heard how P.C. Phillip Smallcombe was signed off sick from his duties as a Police Officer but led the funeral cortege for hearses at funerals.
The Chair of the Panel at the misconduct hearing heard Smallcombe had resigned from the Force in March 2019. The Chair stated Smallcombe would have been dismissed if he was still a serving officer.
South Wales Police have referred details of the case to the College of Policing for the officer to be added to the Barring List which prevents him from applying again to be a Police Officer for at least the next 5 years.
The Panel found Smallcombe guilty of gross misconduct including lying about what he had been doing.
