A Police Officer who was guarding a home of a dead child has admitted to buying pornography on the family’s Virgin TV account.  The incident occurred on 11 February 2018.

It is believed P.C. Avi Maharaj spent £25.96 making four purchases on the family’s Virgin TV account without their permission.  The Officer was guarding the house in the absence of the homeowner.  He was waiting for an Undertaker in relation to the child’s body which was in the house.

At least two of the porn purchases were made whilst the child’s body remained in the house.

The matter was investigated by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).  As a result P.C. Maharaj was prosecuted and subsequently pleaded guilty before a Magistrates Court to fraud.  He is due to be sentenced on 6 August 2019.

The IOPC stated “I am sorry the family involved had to deal with this while also coping with the tragic loss of their child”.

The Officer remains on duty albeit restricted duties.  He is a member of the Metropolitan Police.  The Met has stated that misconduct proceedings will take place at the conclusion of the criminal proceedings.
