Footage was widely shared on social media showing a Police Officer appearing to strike and kick a 15 year old boy on 21 April 2020.

The Officer is being investigated for using excessive force. West Midland Police Force has stated the boy was seen acting suspiciously and was told he would be searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Video footage has circulated apparently showing the male Officer strike the boy and then kick him whilst on the ground.

A complaint about the incident has been filed with the Force and the Officer in question has been suspended.

It has since come to light that further complaints have been made concerning the same Officer and incidents of excessive force. These are now also being investigated.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is now investigating matters. The IOPC is an independent public body. One of its roles, in certain circumstances, is to investigate complaints against Police Officers.
