Northumbria Police Officer keeps job after using excessive force

A Police Misconduct Panel gave a final written warning to a Police Officer after unreasonable force was used against a 14 year old boy in Sunderland City Centre.

The incident happened on 24 January 2018.  The Officer was P.C. Osmond. CCTV is reported as showing the Officer struggling to detain the youth.  The footage is stated to then show the youth being hauled along the ground in handcuffs to a Police vehicle.

It was alleged P.C. Osmond had not restrained the boy properly.  P.C. Osmond admitted he was “embarrassed” after watching the CCTV footage of his actions. The Officer accepted an allegation of using excessive force.
