We recently blogged about the Northumbria Police Officer Sergeant Stephen Light.
On 9 August 2018 Stephen Light was convicted of assault by Carlisle Crown Court. The Court heard how Sergeant Light hit a male over the head with a metal kitchen roll holder following a noisy neighbour dispute. The Officer – who was off duty at the time – claimed he acted in self-defence. The jury was told that Sergeant Light had drunk ’10 pints’ on the night of the attack and ‘took the law into his own hands’.
The Officer was bailed to return to Carlisle Crown Court on 14 September 2018 for sentence. It is reported Northumbria Police have stated they will now proceed with disciplinary action against Sergeant Light.
