Sensationalising Medical Negligence Payouts

The Times missed the point and had no balance to its article published on 15 October 2018 titled ‘NHS payouts to disabled children reach £100 million in a day. The NHS only has itself to blame for failing to learn from mistakes. These claims will have taken many years to reach approval so sensationalising £100m awards over 24 hours is really poor journalism. Liz Truss had no choice as the rate used to calculate future investment return had been unsustainable for years and it is interesting to note that the perceived over-generous current rate will be abolished within a year or so, despite devastated victims having suffered under-settlement for years.
