Police baton attack caught on camera

The IOPC (Independent Office for Police Conduct) who oversee Police complaints in England and Wales are independently investigating an incident on 22 April 2019 when a Police Officer used his baton during the arrest of a 17 year old.

Part of the incident was filmed by a member of the public and shared on social media.  The incident was referred to the IOPC by the Metropolitan Police Service after a witness to the incident complained the use of the baton was excessive.

It has been reported in the media that the teenager was handcuffed at the time he was struck several times with the baton by the Police Officer.  It has also been reported that the Officer was placed on “restricted duties” after the attack.
