Northumbria Police Criticised For ‘Not Doing Job’

On 15 February 2016 The Chronicle reported local Councillor Gavin Jones criticised Northumbria Police for allegedly referring a complaint to him rather than dealing with the matter themselves.  The complaint was from a resident regarding antisocial behaviour.  The resident complained of being hit with sticks and having a bench stolen among other issues.

Councillor Jones is quoted as stating the enforcement of antisocial behaviour was primarily a Police function and the Police should not seek to discharge their duties by directing resident concerns over policing matters to Councillors.  He stated some of the matters raised were very serious and should be recognised by Northumbria Police as such.
