In July 2017 we reported on a serious data breach by Newcastle City Council. An employee at the council accidentally leaked confidential information about children and their adoptive parents. The information was about 2,743 individuals and was sent to 77 people in June 2017.

Ben Hoare Bell solicitor Andrew Freckleton has given an interview to the BBC about the data leak. The council is now facing the possibility of having to pay compensation to the families involved in the data leak.
