Ben Hoare Bell Partner Cris McCurley has provided a helpful overview on the new provisions for Female Genital Mutilation (also known as FGM).
Female Genital Mutilation is a growing concern both inside and outside the UK. Therefore the Serious Crime Act 2015 introduced several provisions to tackle the practice of FGM.
One of the provisions is the introduction of ‘Female Genital Mutilation Protection Orders’ (FGMPOs). An Order can be made to offer protection to girls and women who are victims of FGM or who are at risk.
Cris has written a useful article for the Law Society in which she explains the practicalities of the new legislation.
