Former Chief Constable of Cleveland Police Investigated

On 17 January 2019 the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cleveland made a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) alleging Mike Veale, a former Chief Constable of Cleveland Police had behaved inappropriately and acted in a discriminatory manner.

The IOPC oversee the Police complaint system in England and Wales.

It is understood the investigation is at an early stage.

Unfortunately Mike Veale is not the first person to be subject to investigation having held the post of Chief Constable of Cleveland Police. In 2012 Sean Price was the first Chief Constable to be dismissed in 35 years, with the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) describing his conduct as ‘shameful’.
