Boy ‘collided with Police vehicle’

On 17 April 2019 the Independent Newspaper reported an incident during which a Police van was filmed hitting a 16 year old boy before officers arrested him.

Footage was recorded from a nearby flat.  Several youngsters can be seen running away from the Police.  It is understood the Police were called to reports of trouble in the area.  Two Police vehicles mounted the grass and drove at the group of youths.

It is noteworthy following the incident a Police Superintendent made no reference to the Police vehicle having hit the youth.  Instead it is reported Superintendent Mandy Paterson said “we have confirmed this person collided with a Police vehicle immediately prior to his arrest.  He did not require medical attention as a result of this”.

The incident occurred in Edinburgh and it is understood the matter is being considered by Police Scotland’s Professional Standards Unit.
