Medomsley Compensation Deadline Approaching

The Medomsley Detention Centre Physical Abuse Settlement Scheme previously agreed with the Ministry of Justice to provide compensation to survivors of physical abuse suffered by staff members at Medomsley Detention Centre will end on 1 January 2022.

What this means is the Ministry of Justice will not make any offers of settlement in respect of claims alleging historic abuse at Medomsley Detention Centre where the claim for compensation is received by the Ministry of Justice after 1 January 2022.

Under the terms of the Scheme former detainees are compensated if they have suffered physical abuse committed by any member of staff who was employed at Medomsley Detention Centre during the period they were detained.

We would encourage anyone who has suffered abuse at Medomsley Detention Centre who has not already submitted a compensation claim to do so as soon as possible and before 1 January 2022 at the latest.

Ben Hoare Bell LLP Solicitors have represented more than 500 former detainees of Medomsley Detention Centre in pursuing compensation claims.   If you are interested in pursuing a compensation claim please do not hesitate to contact our Solicitors Andrew Freckleton or Richard Hardy via email advice@benhoarestaging.local or via telephone on 0191 565 3112.
